Sunday School at FCC

We are a NURTURING community, committed to the Christian education and loving development of children and youth.

Nursery Care: for infants and 1-yr-olds is offered during worship in the infant nursery (Room 7). Trained teen nursery workers rotate duties with assistance from parents.

Sunday School: runs through May, followed by a Summer Kids Program.  During the school year, children typically attend the 10 AM worship with families and then leave for class following a “Time with Children.” Sunday school classes are held from 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM. High school youth are encouraged to serve as assistant teachers. A weekly offering is collected during church school classes. Offering envelopes are available for each child.

Church School Supports “Laundry Love”: The 2017-18 children’s offering will benefit the work of a local ministry that helps “do laundry” for people who are struggling financially. A team of volunteers meets at Midway Laundry (14th & Michigan) on the 4th Wednesday of each month to sign in guests, help load laundry and “feed quarters” into the machines. They also provide snacks and toiletries as well as activities for children.

Curriculum: We are glad to be using the “Seasons of the Spirit” curriculum in our Sunday School program. It explores the meaning and mystery of the Bible; nurtures the imaginative spirit; offers resources for all ages; and integrates the worship, learning, and serving ministries of the church.

Acolyte Program: 4th and 5th graders serve as acolytes, lighting the altar candles, for Sunday morning worship.

Children’s Music: Each Sunday during the school year, the Sunday school classes have time for singing/music. The Sunday School choir sings in worship regularly, led by Ann Berchem.

Middle & High Youth Classes: The 6th, 7th & 8th grade class meets in Room 3 from 10:15-11:15 AM and is a companion class to the 9th grade Confirmation program. The Youth Ministries program is lead by Jim Johnson. Learn more.

Safe Sanctuaries: We are a "Safe Sanctuaries" church. One of our goals is to provide a safe environment for the children and youth who are entrusted to our care as they participate in our programs and use our facilities. We have adopted a policy and procedure to provide a safe environment - copies of which are available in the church office.
