Food for Body, Mind & Spirit
Wednesdays, January 17th, 24th & 31st
Join us for our annual Wednesday night series for education and fellowship. All ages welcome! This series is free and open to the wider Sheboygan community. We'll have special programming for all ages each Wednesday of this series from 6:30–7:30 pm.
Adult Series
A 3-week series that focuses on addressing the roots of hate-motivated violence. In 2012, there was a shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, WI, killing six worshippers and wounding three others and a police officer. This series will focus on the healing and wisdom that has grown out of this tragedy.
Wednesday, January 17th
We will show a short film "Waking in Oak Creek" which documents the tragedy and aftermath of the shooting. In the year following the attack, the mayor and police chief led the community as they forged new bonds with their Sikh neighbors. Young temple members and a police lieutenant shot 15 times during the attack inspired thousands to gather for events and honor the victims.
Wednesday, January 24th
Patrick Riccards, Executive Director of Life After Hate, will speak. Life After Hate is a Milwaukee-based organization committed to helping people leave the violent far-right to connect with humanity. Their primary goal is to interrupt violence committed in the name of ideological or religious beliefs through education, interventions, academic research, and outreach.
Wednesday, January 31st
Pardeep S. Kaleka, son of the slain Oak Creek Temple Leader, will speak. As a first-generation immigrant from India, Mr. Kaleka has spent more than 25 years working in the fields of law enforcement, education and social services, as well as assisting hate crime survivors across the United States with recovery. He has also engaged in numerous crisis response coalition-building efforts across ethnic, racial and religious differences.
