Sunday, October 11th
All children and youth are invited to experience our beautiful organ up close with organist and Firefly Preschool teacher Kristin Casper for "Share the Bench Sunday" on October 11th! Meet at the choir loft stairs before worship, then sit near—or even on!—the organ bench during the first part of worship. We’ll also learn more about the organ during the Time with Children.

Firefly Preschool is off to a wonderful start of the school year: engaged kids, sweet families, and fantastic teachers!  Our largest fundraiser of the year is coming up on Sunday, October 11th from 2-5pm at 3 Sheeps Brewery. All money raised supports Firefly's Scholarship Fund making our preschool accessible and affordable for all families in our community! We hope to see you there!

Wednesday, October 14th, 6:30pm

Pastor Dave will be hosting a Membership Conversation on Wednesday, October 14th, from 6:30-8:00 pm in the church lounge if there are folks interested in learning more about FCC. It is a chance to learn about FCC programs, ministry, mission, and people. Please RSVP to Pastor Dave if you are interested - pastordave@fccsheboygan.org. We look forward to receiving new members into our church fellowship on Sunday, October 25th, during our 10:00 am worship.

Thursday Study Group begins a new book October 15th. Heart of a Stranger: An Unlikely Rabbi's Story of Faith, Identity, and Belonging by Angela Buchdahl who inspires us with her invigorating, joyful approach to worship and her belief in the power of faith, gratitude, and responsibility for one another, regardless of religion. Join us on Thursdays, 9:30-10:30 am, in the FCC lounge. All are welcome.

Following worship, volunteers are invited to join in some fellowship as we clean-up the grounds and Eden's Bluff garden and put it to bed for the winter. Please sign up here. Led by Trustees of Building and Grounds.

Thursday, October 22nd
A daily meal held at St. Luke's Methodist Church. We are in need of 5 people to help with the food prep, setting up, serving lunch, hospitality, and clean up-shift which runs from 10:30 am-2 pm. If you’d like to help, please note that the shift is until 2 pm. We are in need of 2 people to make a gallon of chicken noodle soup. Please sign-up here.

Thursday, October 22nd
6 pm at the Stephanie H. Weill Center
A film, remarks and panel discussion with local nonprofit leaders at the Weill Center. This powerful documentary explores what becomes possible when communities move beyond simply managing homelessness and begin working together toward actually solving it. The search for a settled pastor takes longer than traditional job placements due to the deliberate process of mutual discernment. Additionally, the interim process is an important part of the placement of any settled pastor as it allows time for the congregation to evaluate its history, core values and future goals.

After our candidate for settled pastor decided to remove themselves from consideration, it was apparent that this period would stretch into a second year. While eager to have a settled pastor, an extended period of interim after a long tenured pastor is useful. When the right settled pastor is found, FCC will be better prepared to welcome a minister into our vibrant faith community.

What to expect for the fall:

FCC has been fortunate to have Pastor Dave to start this process. His last service at FCC will be October 25, 2026. Please join us that Sunday as we recognize 50-year members in addition to celebrating Dave.

Our new interim minister, Rev. Nancy Zorn Micke, will join us on November 29, 2026. Nancy has a strong history of being an interim pastor and has served 13 congregations, ranging from small to large. Many of those were interim positions. A few times Nancy even served two churches at the same time, either as yoked congregations or shared between two unaffiliated congregations. Nancy will help us continue our journey. Anticipate a more complete biography in a few weeks.

November Sundays will include preaching by Rev. Julie Mavity Maddalena, Dr. Henry S. Kuo, and Danielle Luchtenberg. Rev. Julie Mavity Maddalena will be providing on-call pastoral care during this time. Julie is the University of Lakeland Chaplain, Ethicist in Residence, and Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religion. She is the Chaplain for the Sheboygan Fire department and is a teacher of the OWL curriculum Wednesday nights at FCC.

We will receive this annual UCC offering, which supports ministries of justice and compassion, throughout October. One-third of the offering is given to the Council for American Indian Ministries and the remaining two-thirds supports UCC justice ministries through churches engaged in projects of direct service and advocacy. Through October 18th, you may donate NEW coats and snow pants for this drive. Place them in the collection bin outside of Lucas Hall.

Saturdays 9-10:00 am
The FCC garden is still growing! Join us for gardening on Saturdays through October 24th. Help is needed to harvest, weed, and end of season care. Work times hosted by Bill Demmon, Darren Opel, or Chris Kuehnel.

Join in a time of fellowship, good food and fun for ALL ages! We will enjoy a chili and cornbread supper with a pie fest for dessert!
